The General Assembly, in its resolution 70/181 of 17 December 2015, decided that the special session of the General Assembly on the world drug problem shall be convened for three days, from 19 to 21 April 2016, at United Nations Headquarters in New York, following the fifty-ninth session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, scheduled to be held in March 2016.

Furthermore, the General Assembly decided that representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC are invited to participate in the special session and representatives of civil society and the scientific community, academia, youth groups and other relevant stakeholders may participate in the special session, in accordance with the rules of procedure and established practice of the General Assembly.

The special session features a general debate plenary and five interactive, multi-stakeholder round tables conducted in parallel with the plenary. A summary of the round tables will be prepared by the Chairs of those round tables and presented at the plenary.

Registration is now open for representatives of organizations actively working on drug-related matters from ECOSOC and non-ECOSOC accredited NGOs, civil society, the scientific and academic communities, youth groups and other relevant stakeholders.

IMPORTANT: Government bodies and intergovernmental organizations should not use this form to register. Please observe standard protocol arrangements.

Representatives need to secure their own funding for travel, accommodation and subsistence. Representatives also need to make their own visa arrangements, if applicable. Invitation letters will not be provided by the United Nations.
